Question by Hate the liars and the Lies: Campfire Friday: Funerary rites for any and all pagan groups, are there any standards?
I have been thinking of writing some for our tradition. Anybody willing to share what their customs are?

Christians we really don’t care that you think we are going to hell. Evangelism is not appreciated here.
Actually was wondering more about the recons, hun.

Note I did not specifically ask Wiccans
And is psychosensei on the Council now?

No standards. Unless variation is the standard. Some like cremations, some insist on being allowed to rot in the earth and feed the soil creating sacred compost with their last act… Others do regular funerals. I don’t think you’re allowed to have your body eated dry by birds anymore. (like they did in Northern Scotland in Pagan days)

Hiya hon, yep there’s an organisation called pagan transitions for those of us who want a pagan funeral etc. You can reach them on http://www.pagan-transitions.org.uk
    Hope this helps you.

I don’t know if there are any standards or not. I’ve always seen it as a personal decision. I’m interested to see what others have to say about this.

tsk.tsk. Didn’t the council of elder charge *you* with that?

    ROFL.

edit: Nope, she’s still in leadership. I think Drew’s book might have something. I’ll tell you what’s history and what’s Drewstory.
    Start here, too:

  • Priestess Jean says:

My primary goal as a Priestess is to insure that the
spirit of the deceased reunites with the deity I serve,
if it has not already done so at the moment of death.

Secondarily, my goal is to bring closure and comfort
to the survivors… the friends and relatives, etc.

The specific words used are not of great importance.
It is the power of the Priest or Priestess to act as an
intermediate to their deity that makes the ceremony
    work.

    Many Blessings,

    Jean

We bring new meaning to the term “Light em up”. 😀

Mine will be simple. I will have a few “grave goods” (most likely the things that are important to me and symobolic like a psych book for my degree, pictures of my kids, etc) and then shove me in an oven.
Have a huge feast, remember what I did right, forget what I did wrong and raise a horn for me.

It’s recon….sort of. I’m not sure they will let them burn me on a pyre, though I would prefer that.
