I had to read this too for class…and I was also confused. We went over it in class and I think my teacher said that Descartes believed extended substances (corporeals) did exist. He went on to say that if there are no corporeals then God is a deceiver, meaning that he tricked us into experiencing them. He then concluded that God is not a deceiver, therefore, there are corporeal things. Some stupid reasoning I know, but I think that’s the point of it. I hope I helped..Can someone back me up on this or am I just totally crazy?
