Question by ZIPMAC: Do you suppose the reason for many peoples’ desire for a deity is because they want a spiritual hierarchy?
Wouldn’t that be the one place—this supposed metaphysical spiritual arena—be the domain that people would want to be free of any form of hierarchy?

A pacifier more like.
They want a savior because reality seems too harsh.
I don’t think it’s about hierarchy at all. I think it’s about belonging to something and acceptance by others and dealing with the feeling of not being in control. I think every person comes to a place at least once in their life when they feel there must be something more or something greater than themselves. In my opinion, it’s that drive that has people looking for a deity, and creating one in their own image.
I think people want an ultimate authority and they want to be its representatives.
Just look at Muslims: They give themselves the right of Life or Death over non-Muslims & over each other… how arrogant is that?
(Don’t smile, Christians, you’re as bad as they are.)
