Question by linagain: Does anyone know a thorough text on the history and theories of Zen?
I have the Osho Zen Tarot Deck and, in using it, have become very intrigued with the historical theory and philosophy. I am weary of “pop psychology” books and am looking for a valid expression of the historical development of Zen!

“Zen Buddhism” by the Japanese scholar D.T. Suzuki is probably the best introduction to the development and meaning of Zen.

Please keep in mind, however, that genuine Zen practice has little relationship to philosophy. Zen means perceiving our true self, which is outside of ideas, concepts, feelings, impulses, and form.
