Question by c.herman: Easter question #2 (the real meaning)?
If you knew for a fact that the bunny and the eggs were all a pagan fertility ritual for spring, would you still let your child participate and still tell him about the easter bunny?

Yes, then I’d tell them to sit and watch the South Park meaning of Easter.

I do know it for a fact and I am an observant Catholic and I totally will. Understanding something and accepting it as your faith are two different things. Our traditions evolved from those traditions which predate them. I really hope my kids are intelligent, well educated people who practice a religion that strengthens them both in faith and wisdom. I also expect them to have a damned good time on every holiday, as well. My mom and older brother used to hop up and down the hall and have conversations (my mom as mom and my brother as the Easter Bunny). It was a hoot and I loved it all so much. I knew it was them. Kids know these things. A little magic and joy goes a long way in a persons life.

That’s a very big if. There is no historical evidence that they are a “pagan fertility ritual” so I have no problem with the eggs (which are from a Christian custom and symbolise the end of the lenten fast). The bunny is from a folk custom particular to the USA and, originally as a hare, to Germany so, being English, I have no reason to have anything to do with the bunny.

    nfd?

  • KC says:

Yes. Me being Pagan and all. I have no problem with it.

HI, my name is Sarcasm! Here’s what I do for easter.

I ignore all sound biblical advice and go LIE (and yes I know Satan is the father of the lie)to my kids telling them that Bunny’s lay Pink, Purple, Green, Yellow, and yes even Blue eggs. Than I tell them GO FIND THEM!

If they grow up and ask me why I let them participate in a Pagan Fertility Rite I’ll pretend I didn’t know.

Oh and to you people who say Lying too your kids is OK when you do it on the anniversary of the Resurrection of God’s Son??? WAKE UP!!!

    Reality:
It’s SUN not SON that your celebrating, you see Your Churches took a Pagan custom and put a “Christian” twist on it. what your really celebrating is the rebirth of the goddess of Spring, Eostre.

This is the last resort when you can’t root out the problem, you accept the Pagan Holiday, renaming it which makes it ok…or does it? You tell me.

The same as with Christmas, Halloween, all of which you can decide whether or not they’re acceptable holidays for Christians by meditating on the example found in the latter part of Exodus concerning the Golden Calf.

I do know that and it never stopped me from decorating with bunnies and eggs.

It’s no threat if you are secure in your belief.

Jesus is risen from the dead, he died on the cross so we can have for giveness for all our sins if we ask and we sincerely want to be forgiven for all our sins great or small because he loves us.

    CHRIST’S DEATH
The Mormon’s concept of Jesus is different than the Bible’s. When their Jesus went into the Garden of Gethsemane, he shed there his blood for the transgression of sins. The LDS Church does not accept the biblical idea that Christ’s blood was shed on the cross to wash away our sins – present, past and future. Mormons fail to realize that the empty cross is for Christians the symbol of their salvation and the fulfillment of God’s promise.

Under the Mormon system of theology, one must in effect, earn their way into heaven. In the LDS Articles of Faith, Mormon apostle James Talmadge states that since your “sins are the result of individual acts it is just that forgiveness for them should be conditioned on individual compliance with prescribed requirements – ‘obedience to the laws and ordinances of the [LDS] Gospel.'” [James Talmadge*, Articles of Faith, p. 87.] “Christ’s atonement makes it possible to be saved from sin if we do our part,” says Elder Boyd K. Packer, an apostle of the LDS Church. Doing “our part” refers a need to work out our own salvation. This is in disagreement with the New Testament’s teaching of grace (See Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:21-25; Romans 5; Titus 3:5; Luke 18:10-14, Romans 4:5, Galatians 3 and 5:4). According to the Bible one cannot work their way to Heaven. Salvation is by faith alone – acceptance of God’s gift of salvation and reliance on Christ’s promise of what will happen after our earthly death. Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24).

    The Bible says…
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
    -Ephesians 2:8-9
