Shipibo shaman Don Alfredo in the ethnobotanical circuit of the Ashi Meraya Centre of Traditional Amazonian Medicine talking about the properties of the Chullachaki caspi – one of the most important teacher trees (palos maestros) used in the shamanic diet in the Peruvian Amazon. The tree shown in this clip is a “male tree”, and – as Don Alfredo identifies it – it bears a little penis-like appendix too. The diet with this teacher tree is especially recommended to male apprentices, and requires a period of time between 1 to 2 years. There is also a female variety of the tree (which is not shown here). The tree is named after the Chullachaki, who is a very short yet very powerful being and he is the mother spirit of the tree. An Ayahuasca vine grows on the tree. For more info on how to book for a shamanic diet or an Ayahuasca retreat with us in the Amazon, email us on: info@elmundomagico.org.
