Healing as a Shaman: Some Key Talents
Shamans are one of the most fun and versatile classes to play in World of Warcraft. Shaman healing is much different than resto druid healing or priest healing. Shamans are very strong group healers thanks to Chain Heal, and can also be good for poison and disease cleansing fights such as Maexxna in Naxxramas.
Learning to heal as a shaman takes some practice. One of the most important things for any healer to concentrate on is mana conservation; healers are useless without mana, after all. Resto shamans who’ve just hit 80 are especially prone to mana issues as gear is frequently a problem at that point. It’s best to try to pick up a few pieces of PvP epic gear and run Trial of the Crusader 5-mans to get some starter healing gear. There is also a very nice healing dagger from the Argent Tournament dailies that can be easily acquired after just a few days.
Totems are another important factor that shamans bring to a group. Resto shamans will want to have a mana totem down as frequently as possible, and take the mana tide totem talent for situations where you need to quickly regent mana or help the raid regen mana. Another key talent for resto shamans is Tidal Force, which increases crit chance of healing spells for 20 seconds. This can also be another good source of mana regen, as crit heals actually help with regaining mana.
Finally, it never hurts to ask advice from other shamans in your guild or any friends you have who play shamans. First hand advice is a great way to learn some important tips you might not otherwise find on your own.
