How do you know the difference between “God’s” answers, and inspiration from some other source?
Question by Lancaid: How do you know the difference between “God’s” answers, and inspiration from some other source?
This is not an attempt to discredit anyone’s beliefs. My question is sincere, and while I don’t believe any particular deity answers prayers, my belief, like all the others I hold, is certainly open to revision if I can be shown any oversight on my part. In other words, I’m looking for that if it’s there.
When a person goes to their deity with a question, and an answer becomes known to them by its appearance in their mind, from a dream, through another person, or by some other esoteric source, it may stand to reason that such an answer would be attributed to the deity who had been sought. After all, the question was only posed to that source, and an answer resulted. However, when the meditative act of prayer is coupled with a focused question, and where the questioner then becomes receptive to the spiritual, extrasensory indicators that enable them to obtain the answer, is it possible that the answer becomes known through non-Godly, psychological or metaphysical means? Perhaps the persons own introspective discovery? By the spirit of a dead soul? By the natural intuition of others who somehow supply the persons answer? By another unknown deity? Can a person use the prayer method to tap in to a universal collective consciousness of everyone’s mind, and essentially download it through the energy and receptiveness they’re employing? What makes a person assume that they know the source? If you have a method for deciphering the voice of deity over every other possibility in the universe, please share it.
I ask this because when I pursue divination by way of witchcraft, (*Sigh* A non-evil and Satanless practice.) I receive sensations and symbolic imagery (While now more specific and pronounced) vastly similar to those I received when I performed prayer divination as a Christian.
P.S. Thanks for reading my wall!
Aussiediver, Thank you for your answer. I’m familiar with the biblical views on witchcraft, but that’s exactly what is being done with Christian prayer. It’s only unacceptable to the Christian God if magic is performed outside of the realm of his purposes and glory. Just because I called it prayer divination doesn’t mean I was doing it in a witchcraft mindset or in a way other than other Christians do. A well thought out answer, but not really what I was looking for.

There is only one God that exists. If you can’t come to accept this, then you’ll never find an answer to this question. That’s the only reason I say that. Sorry.

There is no god.
Lancane,
I will try to be as specific as possible and to the point as well.
Divination embraces generally the whole scope of gaining secret knowledge, especially about future events, through the aid of spiritistic occult powers.
So if you were originally praying to God in heaven through the use of ‘divination’, you were still doing it wrong. Sorry. But you at that time were still using the same powers you are using now. Only NOW you are using them MORE DIRECTLY, therefore the sensations should be more specific and more pronounced. Because – you are and they are too, moving together in the same direction now. Get the point?
DIVINATION is listed among spiritistic practices GOD DOES NOT APPROVE:
(Deuteronomy 18:9-12) . . .When you are entered into the land that Jehovah your God is giving you, you must not learn to do according to the detestable things of those nations. 10 There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs DIVINATION, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, 11 or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. 12 For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable things Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you.
The only answer is that you are obeying. Otherwise you will be deceived. No doubt. The early Church Fathers said that if God did not restrain Satan in this respect, No One could withstand him.
Obedience. Only.
I am Christian but I very much like your answer and the way that you think. I believe that the collective consciousness that you talk about is becoming more apparent as if it is moving down a level (is you know what I mean). As for the accuracy of Gods word opposed to any other try looking into biblical numerology, its fun, can also make you seriously paranoid, but youve probably been paranoid before (yes?), so what does it matter.
