Question by Master Cloud: How would you, personally, go on a Native American “vision quest” in the NYC metropolitan area?
I’d rather not leave Manhattan because I’m lazy.
Please try to be specific.

unfortunately for you, “vision quest” and “lazy” don’t mix. That’s partly why it’s called a “quest”.
firstly, most native americans who go on a vision quest do so in nature, now i know that the big apple is a jungle all its own, but you need to be out in conventional nature, this could mean just finding a nice forested area in the Bronx. the reason for this is because you will probably want to eat some peyote, its kind of an essential to the quest, and being in a loud city while tripping on peyote is just asking to be tripped out beyond repair.
I don’t think it can be done in a metropolitan area. The idea is to get alone with Nature and yourself.
I’m with shiariry…if you’re that lazy, don’t try. You have no vision. Visions only come to those who are willing to make sacrifices.
This reminds me of a zen story:
Two monks are walking among the students as they sit and do their za-zen meditation. One sees that a student has fallen asleep and is about to wake him. The other monk stops him, saying ‘buddha is buddha, whether he is asleep or awake.’
Sit in your apartment, play some music, and simply sit and listen to the world outside and within yourself. If you cannot find the world you seek among the concrete trees, how will you find them among the wood ones?
