Is the Magicjack for Everyone
In all honesty, no. The magicJack is not going to be the best option for everyone. For many people, sticking with a landline is going to be there best option. Voip services are better for individuals that make a lot of long distance calls or have another phone for emergency calls.
The magicJack should be used as an alternative phone not a primary phone. Many people have complained about certain aspects of the magicJack because they expected it to be similar to using a landline. Therefore, they were disappointed. However, if you have an understanding about Voip services you should not be disappointed with a magicJack.
Some of the complaints with the magicJack are difficulties calling emergency services (911). This can be a somewhat lengthy process, however if you use the magicJack as your alternative phone you should use the primary phone to make these calls. The magicJack was not designed to take over as the only phone in the home.
For example, even with the other Voip services, if you lose your high speed connection or if you have a power outage you will not be able to make a phone call, this makes the magicJack the same as the others. With a landline, if you lose your power and have a phone that is not cordless you would be able to make an outgoing call. Without a corded phone you will not be able to call anyone, would that be the fault of your phone company? Of course not!
Another common complaint with the magicJack is the sound quality. This is usually a typical complaint among those that have not used a Voip service before. However, if you are familiar with the occasional dropped sound, faint humming or even the occasional echo, you will see there really is no difference in sound
