Question by good news: Non-theists and no-religion people, what is ur opionion on individuality?
There many atheist and agnostic scientists who finds spirituality in science and some atheists finds some reasons to believe in the soul. And spirituality does point toward spiritual individuality — a metaphysical identity of an individual. So do you believe your personhood is metaphysical? Or it’s just brain waves that gives the deception of freewill and spiritual feelings?
If ur ans. is from the 2nd option then please provide scientific evidence too.
Thanks 4 reading my Q.
@Geezah, the agnostic scientist Carl Sagan once said that science is a profound source of spirituality. And even dawkins argues that “atheists can be spiritually fulfille w/o religion

I am 100% physical. There is no evidence that I am anything otherwise.
What do you think? Answer below!
Christians express their individuality by doing the same thing
No. I am only a physical being.
Your personality and individuality all comes from the brain, not some phantom “spirit” or whatnot. You can look up the evidence for this yourself, try Wikipedia.
No, I don’t believe there’s anything metaphysical about my identity as an individual. That certainly doesn’t mean I reject all philosophical notions of it. I can get very philosophical about what makes myself “me”. But I personally don’t see the need to bring supernatural notions into the picture.
You CAN have philosophy without notions of the supernatural. It seems to me that a lot of monotheists have been led to think otherwise.
Also, I don’t know anybody who finds “spirituality in science”. Science is an empirical way of finding objective knowledge. I do think that scientific discoveries can give us a sense of awe (e.g., the vastness of the universe, the incredible way some animals behave, etc.), if that’s what you mean.
I can imagine myself to be anything that pleases me, but in the end I’ll stop breathing and then I’ll be no more.
i think the whole concept of metaphysics is bullshit. it’s nonsense, pure pseudospeak that sounds philosophical but really it has no meaningful content. like homeopathy.
your mind is your brain. pretty much all of neuroscience backs me up on that. MRI machines wouldn’t work if your mind was something different. alcohol and other drugs would not work if your mind was somehow separate from your brain. do we have free will well maybe not, but i think it is one of those things that it is impossible to ever know whether you do or not so why bother thinking about it.
I don’t know quite what is meant by ‘spiritual’ feelings, but I have no information that my sense of self and freewill are anything other than a function of my body. I didn’t have them before my body existed, and I have no information that they can exist outwith the body. I’m not sure what you mean by ‘brainwaves’, but I accept that it’s the brain that is the organ that we use to have consciousness.
Edit:
As for being ‘spiritual’, this seems a vague term that has no real meaning. Can you be more precise about what you mean?
I do not feel that I have a spiritual side or need. I know that I am a complex collection of atoms and I know that I owe my existence to the fact that not a single one of my ancestors died prior to having offspring. I am quite individual (or so people keep telling me, individual is the same as unique isn’t it?) I know that I have no free-will. Every decision I make is based on the information that I have at that exact moment in time. If presented with exactly the same information and exactly the same circumstances, I will make exactly the same decision ergo I have no free-will.
