  • Silent says:

It’s not specifically solstice music (in fact it’s billed more as Christmas music) but “Wizards In Winter” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra always makes me think of winter.

  • Vernon Dozier: Redux says:

Anything with Scottish bagpipes. For feck’s sake, if your heart doesn’t swell with ancient pride when you hear the pipes, you aren’t alive!

  • Grim Jack's Ghost says:

    Thanks for the reminder…

Not Pagan here but I really need to pull out Tull’s “Songs from the Wood”.

  • listless says:

may I suggest George Winston “A Winter Solstice” solo piano, hauntingly beautiful and introspective. Please get it if you do not have it…

“spiral dance” is a good band, with music for any of the sabats

“celtic woman” and “enya” are good, too

kimimela (sp?) just mentioned one of the “spiral dance” songs….i’m pretty sure it’s spiral dance anyway. hang on a sec

sorry it took so long. it’s “burning times” by spiral dance that has the goddess chant in it

Have a listen to Hello Dawn By Steve Hillage

  • kclightman says:

Not particularly. But recently I heard a lovely Celtic version of ‘Carol of the Bells’.

  • adime_adozen says:

I do love me some Trans-siberian Orchestra, but I tend to listen to their instrumental tracks over their tracks with words. I still listen to some Christian music for the holidays, it reminds me of my childhood. I do recommend Loreena McKennit, however, and of course Enya and Celtic Woman. Then there’s Blackmore’s Night, they have some lovely instrumental tracks.

  • ~Heathen Princess~ says:

The Nutcracker Ballet. I love Tchaikovsky. 🙂 I lost the CD and didn’t get to play it for my Yule party this year.

    mitch miller’s holiday sing along.

edit: irev. albert einstein, quit defaming the name of a great man.

  • ? says:

Actually there are a number of very good pagan musical groups around who have put out some wonderful music not only for Yule but for ALL of the 8 Sabbats. Lisa Thiel has a song entitled “Yule” on her “Circle of the Seasons” album that I find to be really cool to listen to at this time of year.

    I like:
    Glazounov, The Seasons
    Tschaikovsky, Nutcracker
    Stearns, Chronos
Which collection is, if nothing else, eclectic.

  • Aine's Daughter says:

    I have like…one?

Mothertongue’s This Dark Winter’s Night, I think it’s called. It has a bnifty version of Carol of the Bells, and a song or two In Gaelic.

I have to agree with the Nutcracker though. I’m big fan of ballet.

  • Anna T says:

Enigma and Enya, especially when working together, put out some kick ass sabbath music, also The Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s piece, Celtic Trance is good.
