pagans temple
by nico t

Question by : Pagans: Is not the real temple to be found outside in nature as well as within each of us?
The electrical storm is drawing strength from the air around me, like a mile-high cobra preparing to strike.

Flashes of lightning overlay one another such that there is little darkness between them.

“krk-BOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!!!”

How could Pagans ever give this up for the stuffiness and emptiness of a church service and still feel their unquenchable thirst for Life appeased?

Best answer:

Answer by Kharm the Nature Lover
I will always feel more spiritual dancing in a storm than inside any building.

    I’ll take the Mother Earth light show anytime! ; )

  • Black Dragon says:

    Well, I can’t speak for the rest, but that works for me.

  • prairiecrow says:

    Agreed. 🙂 The most powerful religious ceremonies I’ve ever attended were out in the middle of the wilderness — on a couple of occasions, in the midst of a rainstorm.

    May the Lord and the Lady bless you and keep you.

  • Meow says:

    I agree. I always feel so much more spiritual outside in a storm, than inside a building.

  • Lord Luinrandir, Wiccan HP3* says:

    Right on brother!

    In a river, in a forest, in a field, on a mountain, in a desert, in an ocean… the god and goddess is everywhere, but most of all, they are in you! Thou art god/dess!

    Blessed be

  • DigitalGhost says:

    Indeed

  • Boar's Heart says:

    “The Germans do not think it in keeping with the divine majesty to confine gods within walls or to portray them in the likeness of any human countenance. Their holy places are woods and groves, and they apply the names of deities to that hidden presence which is seen only by the eye of reverence.”

    Tacitus, “Germania,” 98 CE.

  • Take_me_to_your_leader says:

    Nature is the true temple, feeling the energies around you that haven’t been corrupted and surpressed by modern technology or MANMADE buildings.

    I don’t understand the concept of a confined holy place.
    I always like to think. How did they get those stones to make churches? Many came from mines that required destroying nature to obtain. Or chopping down trees if made of wood.

  • Stephen says:

    The real temple is where we feel closest to Mother Earth, I have yet to find a building that does that better than outside can. But of course, during an electrical storm, I think I would prefer to be inside, we may be spiritual but we are also practical, never go up a hill or under a tree during a lightning storm.

    Bright Blessings )O(

  • Perry L says:

    What happens to a Pagan when they get struck by lightening? Oh yeah fools…worshipers of the creation of the One Creator. Do you not see that that this world is but an illusion and is only a temporary home for you? Your Pagan “gods” will not help you on the Last Day when you will answer for your foolery.

    And you an old guy with Grandchildren…Shame On YOU! Are you going to offer up that kid in your lap to gain more power in this world in a Pagan sacrafice?

    I gave up living in Florida to live in the mountains and to be closer to nature that hasn’t been tampered with. That and the idea that there was some reason that Goddess had for me to come live in the mountains. I have a nice house, all the property that I need to grow whatever and a beautiful area that is filled with mountains, streams, and good people who don’t pry into my life!

    I need to add more pictures to my gallery that shows more of my home and the land that surrounds it.

  • faeriefiddler says:

    To answer simply, I can’t give up Mother Nature. I can only stay in a building for so long, then I have to go outside or I start to feel like I’m suffocating. I just have to be outside. I’m not satisfied with my life if I’m stuck indoors all the time.

  • Praire Crone says:

    Of course, that is what being what and who we are is all about. It is sad to see others who don’t share this view.

  • Randi L says:

    LOL While everything is better when done out among Nature, I have to agree with you that that same wellspring of life and energy can be found within, if you just choose to look. How else do we office-dwelling pagans get through the days?! After all, we are each but a small extension of Mother Earth…

  • Raven's Voice says:

    Every place I set my feet, I am walking on holy ground.

  • PixiePrincess says:

    I completely agree. There is no better place to worship than in nature where the Goddesses and Gods are. To see the sun shine down and know the warmth of the Gods love. To stand in the moons rays and feel the glory and power of the Goddess. I find that nothing intesifies the spiritual experience like the smells feels, visions, sounds, and tastes of nature. To feel the power not only without you but within you.
    Have you ever read the charge of the GOddess. Here it is:
    Written by Doreen Valiente

    Whenever ye have need of anything,
    once in the month and better it be when the moon is full,
    then shall ye assemble in some secret place,
    and adore the spirit of me,
    who am Queen of all witches.

    There shall ye assemble,
    ye who are fain to learn all sorcery,
    yet have not won its deepest secrets;
    to these will I teach all things that are as yet unknown.

    And ye shall be free from slavery;
    and as a sign that ye be truly free,
    you shall be naked in your rites;
    and ye shall dance, sing, feast, make music and love,
    all in my praise.
    For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit,
    and mine also is joy on earth;
    for my law is love unto all beings.

    Keep pure your highest ideals;
    strive ever towards them,
    let nothing stop you or turn you aside.
    For mine is the secret door which
    opens upon the Land of Youth,
    and mine is the cup of the wine of life,
    and the Cauldron of Cerridwen,
    which is the Holy Vessel of Immortality.
    I am the gracious Goddess,
    who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man.

    Upon earth,
    I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal;
    and beyond death,
    I give peace, and freedom,
    and reunion with those who have gone before.

    Nor do I demand sacrifice;
    for behold, I am the Mother of all living,
    and my love is poured out upon the Earth.

    I am the beauty of the green earth,
    and the white moon among the stars,
    and the mystery of the waters,
    and the desire of the heart of man.

    Call unto thy soul, arise, and come unto me.
    For I am the soul of Nature,
    who gives life to the Universe.
    From me all things proceed,
    and unto me all things must return;
    and before my face, beloved of gods and of men,
    let thine innermost divine self be enfolded,
    in the rapture of the infinite.

    Let my worship be within the heart that rejoicest,
    for behold, all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.
    Therefore, let there be beauty and strength,
    power and compassion, honor and humility,
    mirth and reverence within you.

    And thou who thinketh to seek for me,
    know thy seeking and yearning shall avail thee not,
    unless thou knoweth the mystery;
    that if that which thou seekest thou findest not within thee,
    thou wilt never find it without thee.

    For behold, I have been with thee from the beginning;
    and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

    I hope you enjoy this.
    Blessed Be.
