One Response to Q&A: Have you ever heard of Catholic Shamanism?

  • Sue says:

playganism, (yes I did spell that right)

People are inventing new forms of paganism all the time, blending cultures and belief systems that were never meant to be blended in an attempt to start their own belief system.

It’s like ‘Christian Wicca’ ‘vamp witch’ and others I’ve seen around. My guess is this is a new version of Catholicism with a bit of mysticism thrown in to bring back the straying flock to christianity, OR it’s someone who can’t quite let the old catholic upbringing go 🙂

Mostly they take their favourite bits from each belief system and mix them up to make another – usually it denotes a lack of understanding of either path IMO.

Shamanism is a belief system that is in use in north and south america and the northern lands (lapland and such) In North America you are likely to find Shamans called ‘Medicine men’ by the Native Americans. ‘Shaman’ is a term that is overused nowadays, it’s been linked with ‘Celtic’ ‘Fairy’ ‘angel’ and all manner of stuff that real genuine Shamans and Medicine men would have a fit at 🙂

Having said all that some do say that any way of bringing spirituality to the general public is a Good Thing. IMO it’s another wannabe pagan path tho.
