It’s very, very easy to give a general reading which almost everyone will relate to.
I think their tarot reading are based from the personal information they can acquire from you like birthdays, name or nickname, etc. and they will draw tarot card in their place and interpret what cards come up.
Hello
Just like any other program I should suspect, either way they are just for fun.

Well, the cards come up at random, but the idea is that when you concentrate on your question(s) the right cards will come up for you. For me, whenever I’ve done one, it’s a crap shoot whether I get the right cards or not. I’d rather have a reading from a live person.
They really are for “entertainment purposes” only. It sounds to me as though you’re looking for validity from these “readings” – don’t waste your time.
By the way, what can a pizza do that an average Tarot reader can’t?
Feed a family of four!
I have gotten some startlingly accurate readings from tarot.com. I use it sometimes to confirm my own readings and/our intuition.
In the beginning I wasn’t registered and so they didn’t have any personal information about me. All I ask in my question is “What should I focus on today?”
After the day is over and I reflect on the reading, it all makes sense.
It’s hard to make random tarot cards make sense because they are all very different, especially the major arcana.
I believe that it is a random computerized process but I also think that there are Universal forces at work that allow for the right cards to come up. That has been my experience anyways.
I’ve never used one, but I’m gonna have a go on Witchy Mel’s suggestion. Curiosity.
I’d assume that they work from a random number generator program. The numbers will generate a value that is referenced to a bank of comments, keywords and statements.
The statements are likely to avoid anything too negative and generalize more positive aspects of personality, future etc. That’s my prediction! Anyway, I’m going to find out by having a go. If it gives me a bad reading, I’ll close my browser to teach it a lesson it won’t forget. I might get converted and start wearing purple tassled clothes…
Computers are machines. They can’t be psychic. They can’t read tarot cards. They can’t even read books. Computers do not have the ability to interpret or understand anything.
The tarot program works like this (or at least this is how I would write one): The computer contains a database of readings and a database of words. The readings and words have categories associated with them. First, the computer scans what you type in to find words that words that are in its database. From those words, it makes a list of possible categories and selects some readings based on those categories. Then it chooses one of those readings randomly based on the tarot cards that you picked.
Entering categories for all those readings and words would probably take a lot of time. So to save time, the programmer might just skip all that and have the program completely ignore what you type in and just choose a reading at random instead.
A good programmer might also give the computer the ability to adapt its selection process based on feedback from you. That way the more you play, the better the readings get.
