Question by Praire Crone: Pagans.. Before any kind of ritual, do you listen to music to help you prepare for it and if so what kind?
For me I listen to celtic tunes that have a peaceful and calm, reflective sound. I listen to drums when I am doing protective rituals. What about you?

Best answer:

Answer by Deep Blue
I use Total Relaxation by Kelly Howell. It is Alpha waves and it is incredible for getting your mind in the right place for ritual. Deep Meditation from the same company is also great.

I listen to Celtic and Middle Eastern new age stuff
all the time, but not specifically to prepare for ritual.
I just like the relaxing and etherial sound of it.

    Bright Blessings,

Not directly before, although I do listen to kind of seasonal music which is pagan.

I’ve got some songs for Yule, some for Beltane, some for Midsummer and some for Samhain. And then some other general seasonal stuff. I don’t necessarily listen to it right before or during my rituals, but I do move it into my playlist during the appropriate times.

I usually listen to some calming classical music before doing anything religious. It relaxes me and I feel “renewed.” 🙂

I listen to a lot of Native American music. Hagalaz Runedance also always gets me in the mood. Anything with drumming will as well.

I listen to Enya when I do listen to music, bc it makes me feel connected to the Elements, and it is so beautiful. I also listen to Celtic music, and sometimes to Aborginal drums for energy spells.

Sometimes, depends on the ritual. Seems we have a similar taste in music. Celtic and drums are two of my favs. I also listen to nature CD’s as well.

If there is time (which is by no means always), I try to spend some time on the drums. Usually Blues, R&B, Jazz. But the style does not matter so much. If it is too late at night, I refrain from that because it might bother the neighbors.

I listen…to whatever comes on my music system. I’m a total music nut, and it helps me focus, so I don’t really stick to one genre or type. The last ritual I did, I listened to Aerosmith, the time before that, an aria from La Boheme, before that, Nine Inch Nails.

    So basically, it’s completely random.

    Greetings!

We usually play and sing before, during, and after-

When doing a solitary Working, I toot on my Digeridoo, and use Throat Singing and Toning to get in a Mood, and use Trance Drumming during the Rite.

Gaelic Pipes and Harp are really, really good to help prepare, as one needs to Focus on the Ancestors, Spirits of Place, and the Mystery that is Deity, and there are so many great groups out there!

I usually listen to ambient music or bineural beats on my iPod.

  • Gianni says:

I really don’t have a preference. Before doing a solitary new moon ritual last Saturday, I listened to HIM while doing preparations. For Yule it was some Dar Williams and Trans Siberian Orchestra. For light backround music during ritual I tend to lean toward Jonathan Goldman-ish melodies or chants.

I listen to Enigma… it always puts me in the right frame of mind.
