Question by jackie: What are some ideas for an appropriate rite of passage into adulthood?
I’m very close to being eighteen years old and have decided that I am in need of a rite of passage in order to find myself to become more independent and have a more mature relationship with my parents. My parents are not very keen with this idea though. They would not consider letting me go on a vision quest and don’t think that I need a rite of passage.
Does anyone have any ideas of small, but significant things I can do that would serve as a rite of passage? And ideas of how to convince them that this is important to me?

Congratulations on your approach to becoming an adult. My son just turned 18 in January. I can tell you there is no single meaningful rite of passage. You earn your parent’s trust and respect as you take on adult responsibilities.
