Question by Mr. Fireman: Why are so many Christians against Paganism?
I’m not saying that you have to believe in Paganism, but why is it so bad for someone to believe in something different than you?
I’m at a loss here. I was born and raised as a Christian. I was baptized, confirmed, and even married in a Christian church. Over the last several years though, I’ve lost my faith.
Lately, I’ve been doing research and have been reading and learning about several different religions. The more I learn about other religions, the more I realize that my beliefs are a closer reflection of Pagan (more specifically Wicca) beliefs than with Christian beliefs. I honestly believe that most of this stems from so many Christians pushing the “our way or it’s wrong” beliefs, versus the “if it doesn’t hurt anyone else then it’s fine” beliefs of the Pagans.
The example of this that bothered me so much today is right here –
This link is for a song, posted on youTube, that is about a mixed Christian and Pagan family sitting down together and sharing a holiday meal. The song talks about the family setting aside their differences and enjoying each others company.
The next song was posted as a response to the first. This one is much more difficult for me to describe. You’ll really have to watch it to get the full effect, but basically it’s a robe wearing, long haired, bearded man playing a cross shaped guitar (which, ironically, is nearly upside down). This guy makes a horrible attempt of mocking the original song.
What bothers me most about this video is that even though the first song was about peace and harmony amongst different religions, this bigot found it necessary to make a mockery of the song by telling the world that all Pagans are going to burn eternally in hell unless they repent their sins today and convert to Christianity.
Really? I mean come on.
It’s a sad world we live in. Everyone wants to talk about equal rights for women, and equal rights for different races, but why are people so against the fact that some of us believe in different Gods? Is this what I will be facing if I tell my friends and family that I am not a Christian? Will they be so close minded that I will be categorized as a sub-standard human being that is destined for eternal damnation?
I would hope not, but seeing how other Christians treat Pagans my chances don’t look good.

Not all are bad, but it is sad. I have been threatened with a gun…..not fun. My husband was right there and so was my infant. Some take their holy book so literally, that no one has a chance.

They’re afraid of the competition.
check my record, im not totally against it per se
there is the added corruptions of idolatry and false teacher worship that makes it wrong
If anything they should be thankful for all the stories paganism has borrowed to their precious Bible. The virgin birth and resurrection for example.
fear
Most of Christianity’s costums are taken from Paganism, it was a way to make the people convert easier. Bunch of hypocrites.
either out of fear or hatred or arrogance for the most part Christians stole a lot of the Pagans holidays and their gods.
It’s part of Christian beliefs that theirs is the one true God. Since we don’t follow that belief system in their eyes we are heretics and blasphemers. Not all Christians are like that though, some are very accepting, some are just afraid of what they don’t understand, some think that by not worshiping their God we are unknowingly worshiping Satan. The list goes on, there are different reasons for why different Christians are against Paganism.
I have no idea. Christians bash the Pagans, yet don’t hesitate to take part in Pagan Holidays. Many, if not ALL of the american holidays that are celebrated today were created by Pagans. Christmas is even a Pagan holiday! True Christianity does not promote the observance of ANY holidays whatsoever. We are to observe nothing or mark the time with any celebratory event. NOT EVEN YOUR OWN BIRTHDAY!!!! For more about this, see Jehovah’s Witnesses beliefs and laws of the faith.
I consider myself a christian and was raised catholic, we were taught to not to poke fun of anyone different then us in the way they look, dress or worship. We all have a choice to believe what we want to believe. What always made me wonder, how anyone could not believe in God, who created heaven and earth and all things. And every time they look in the mirror, they have to see one of Gods many miracles. To think that they grew from a tiny seed is truly a miracle.
I had an excellent picture for this situation but i didn’t save it. In this one clip cartoon a sun is talking to “God” and the sun says “Okay I finished up the rest of the universe. You really put a lot of thought into it.” and God replies”I wanted to make a great place for the human race to live. Now we just have to wait 14 billion years to tell them the “good news”.” Anyway my point is, there is no modern day mythology. Go back in time and ask a Roman about their made up gods. You’re in for an ass kicking.
Paganism will not get you to heaven.
Is heaven your goal? or are you just interested in the here and now?
Christianity offers the way to heaven.
Think about it from the other side. Why would another person care if they were presented with foreign beliefs? I can think of three main ones:
Most people tend to think their own beliefs are good, so it is probably natural for them to want others who they like to share them too. You wouldn’t want your friends or family to suffer because they thought that ice cream made computers operate better, would you? Such people, of course, are acting out of concern, and so aren’t likely to be hateful. They can put aside their ideas if it makes you upset. They’re the people in your first video.
There are also some people who have doubts. Guilt. Shame. They feel these things about their beliefs but they don’t want to. So they try and destroy contrary ideas as a show, as much for themselves as others. You see this all over – politicians outspoken against homosexuality while secretly engaging in such affairs, or traitors trying to seem the super-patriot. Sort of the thing that the phrase “methinks she doth protest too much” is meant to criticize.
And there are people of faith who believe that they are in a war of ideas in a very real sense. Us versus them. And the ‘them’ are non-human enemies not worthy of much consideration. To such people, there is no negotiation or middle ground, only complete victory or utter loss. A lot of people are guilty of black-and-white thinking; it’s just too bad when it extends to such sweeping philosophies.
For people who are truly your friends, you probably don’t have much to fear. In fact, you may discover that you weren’t giving them enough credit and that denying them the opportunity to be adult about it also denied you any support they might have given you. Some may end up falling in one of the other categories, and maybe you can help them if they’re in the second. Ultimately, though you may lose a few friends, maybe you should consider whether they are the sort you wanted to keep anyway. Perhaps they are doing you a favor by self-selecting themselves out of your life.
Food for thought.
It occurs to me there’s also the antisocial motive, but I don’t usually think of it because it’s a null program. A person who wanted to make you feel bad simply because they enjoyed it would do so whether you were Christian, Hindu, or an atheist. All they care about is the lulz.
Why are So many Pagans Against Christians? What’s the difference?
because they are told to kill witches any occult affiliates are automatically branded as such and should be burned at the stake…so says the bible. They don’t want to admit that their bible stripped all of the ancient occult stories of all spirituality and turned it into a book of intolerance and ignorance.
