Review by Yogi Shawn for The Art of Making Sex Sacred: Techniques for Intimate Relationships

The only paragraph in this excellent book on masturbation says, “Masturbation in men creates a triple action on the pituitary gland, which takes away his power to concentrate. It is a waste of his precious seed and energy. Women do not experience the same ill-effects as men. For women, it is more a matter of deciding how she wants to use her creative energy and focus. It is better to do some exercises to redirect the “itchy” energy. This is not a moral issue as it is in some religions. In yogic philosophy we are concerned with bringing harmony between heaven and earth. The issue here is one of consciousness and energy concentration. In which chakra do you want your energy and consciousness to reside?”
This above is a technical point and is a very small notification in an appendix. The bulk of the text is mostly about the yogic understanding of sexual relationships between men and women. There is some great stuff here for those who have an interest in Kundalini Yoga and the technical energetic differences between the sexes.

A good rule of thumb for those seeking to positively explore their sexuality is to avoid any book which asserts that masturbation is physically damaging to the male nervous system, including this one. ‘Nuff said.
