@Archaic77 Pain and suffering is a consequence of sin. Also, our separation from God is another consequence. So, if you believe that sin exists, you must believe that God exists. However, God did not abandon us. He sent his Son to suffer and die with us. We now have hope and an increase in faith having seen the love that God has for us. Read the Bible, or talk to a Catholic priest if you want to know more.
But I do agree that to be simply “Alive” is actually quite amazing, and amazing enough to inspire one to have faith that their life is something more than being a mere part of the food chain. Although it does not count as evidence to the scientific of course – it is certainly there.
Which translates to the fact that we have to consume, and most often the body of other creatures.. It is most likely that those creatures we feed on have our basic sense of pain too..Also other creatures will feed on us..The nature of survival we witness around us is the most basic disheartening factor to me regarding the question of a “divine” existing. I am of a strong opinion that that internal guardian the religous hold close to them will come to naught when facing this fact or one like it.
I personally have not found there to be a God, at least not one that makes itself known to me and speaks to me etc.. If there is a “God-like” being (i tend to think along the Gaia lines here..) it seems to be not all fluffy bunnies and lovey dovey stuff.. “It” has “created” a world (universe) full of intelligent creatures capable of experience and also susceptible to pain.. along with us creatures being afflicted by this curse we also have to contend with the nature of our survival..
Intelligence is certainly an interesting phenomenon. But is it supernatural? Just because it’s a form of complexity does not mean it reaches beyond the observable reach of science, or the explainable realm of language. We are blinded by our own minds in the quest to understand the minds. Where are gods and souls in all of this? It seems silly to leap to that conclusion.
No, however I realize when you ask questions like Why do you assume the universe had a beginning? When all scientific evidence points to it. And you say things like everything has intelligence huh? Maybe in your head where everything is viewed at material and atoms then sure ya thats not intelligence, but the end result (E.G, You) is intelligent for you to be able to talk to me is intelligence a bird knowing to fly is intelligence, DNA is Intelligence. I can anwser your questions I just dont..
I can see you have came to the conclusion already that regardless of what anyone says, you are right. If you want to message me your email address I can respond to these but I’m sure the author would appreciate it if we stopped debating on his video-post.
1. Why do you assume the universe had a beginning?
2. When you ask “why” the laws of physics exist, you assume that’s a valid question. It’s your implication of purpose that leads to the assumption of purpose, not the laws themselves.
3. Why do you assume I have not sought purpose like everyone else? I’ve looked long and hard. I’ve used scientific tools. None of them reveal gods or souls. There is nothing you can show me which evidences gods or souls.
4. Why do you say intelligent design makes more sense than evolution, and why do you assume that because it makes more sense to your human mind, that it’s true? Don’t you acknowledge that our brains are wired to find patterns and project design/purpose where there is none? (See ancient explanation for the moon, wind, fire, etc.)
5. “Everything has intelligence inside of it.” Huh?
6a. You refer to “unorganized, non living matter”. What actually is “unorganized”? Do you think the layers of geological structure in a mountain are any less organized than the layers of your skin? Are the patterns of the wind less organized than the blood in your body? You’re defining humans as “organized” and “living” when that division is only a useful heuristic to humans.
6b. On a molecular (and smaller) level, there’s no difference between living and non-living matter. It’s only the structures which determine actions and behaviors, including brain activity, etc. You might not like thinking of humans as being simply matter, yet there is no evidence to the contrary. You don’t get to assume souls exist because it makes you happy to do so.
7. The notion that evolution is “completely random” and “unguided” is a myth that only creationists propagate. Evolution is the opposite of random…. changes and adaptations are founded 100% on the interaction between an organism and its environment. If anything, the alleged capricious behavior of gods is “random”. As for “unguided”, again, the environment guides evolution. What do you suggest “guides” our existence, and can you point to it for me?
8. You say evolution seems silly. I suspect you have not studied it, but only heard preachers and perhaps religious family members badmouth it with anti-science banter. Yet even so, if you have studied it fully and it genuinely seems silly to you, would that discredit it? Monkeys throw poop and that’s silly, but we don’t deny it happens. And those who suggest that humans came from mud and ribs…. isn’t that a little “silly”?
And no I’m not preaching there is a god because I don’t follow any religion or claim to be part of any. I just find it very hard to rule out the possibility of intelligent design when It makes much more sense than a Darwinian perspective and everything has intelligence inside of it. Unorganized, non living matter organizing itself to form a conscious living breathing intellectual organism by completely random and unguided processes seems silly.
No, I do not assume something exists without proof. However I base a view on evidence. Facts: You dont get something from nothing. The Universe had a beginning. The insanely complex workings of a cell have multiple built in working systems, based of other extremely complex atomic and sub atomic particles and DNA. This is just what we can observe sure we know laws of nature but why do those laws exist and why does it create the reality we see? If you looked you wold find evidence for god and soul

I realize that its going to take alot more talking and debating to articulate my views than this 500 char box can support.
want to do it in a character box limited to 500.

I ask some legitimate questions and your answer is to say I’m stubborn. I suppose that was the easiest way out. Have a good life stranger.

Critical questions for you:
1. Why do you assume the universe had a beginning?
2. When you ask “why” the laws of physics exist, you assume that’s a valid question. It’s your implication of purpose that leads to the assumption of purpose, not the laws themselves.
