What do I do to evaporate the naphtha without the crystals disappearing?
Question by cockn1pples: What do I do to evaporate the naphtha without the crystals disappearing?
When I strain off the naphtha from the jar with the white crystals stuck to the bottom the crystals end up melting in with the naphtha. How can i get DMT crystals to become solid and dry?

I’m assuming you’re referring to crystals that were formed via freeze precipitation. As a solvent such as naphtha is warming up after you take it out of the freezer, the amount of solute (DMT) it can hold is increasing, thus your crystals begin redissolving.
If you don’t feel like adding an extra step, simply insulate your solvent jars before removing them from the freezer, then filter as quickly as possible to ensure they stay cold. You could even take it further and wrap up the jar with a bag of very salty, freezer-temperature water.
If you want to increase your yield significantly, reduce the amount of solvent you have. You can do this by mixing all your jars together in a shallow dish with a fan blowing across it. After a few hours crystals should start to form on the sides. Keep scraping them off and stirring them back in. When they stop redissolving, add small amounts of solvent back little by little until they do, then stick it back in a container in the freezer.
Hope that works out for you; good luck!
