Question by Mr. Gabriel: What is the metaphysics and why is it important in studying philosophy?

metaphysics is actually a branch of philosophy and it is very spiritual, studying things “beyond (meta) physics (physics :P)” and it almost applies to psychic phenomena, as well as the “unchanging” which is really in your interpretation, it can mean God or nature or whatever you make of it.
metaphysics is really hard to define but basically it applies, as the name states, to things “above the physical” such as unchanging forces or paranormal phenomena unexplainable by modern science
Give your answer to this question below!
um…well…i think ‘metaphysics’ is the branch of philosophy thet examines ‘reality’ questions like…um…the questions arising out of study of existence.
the classic question being “if a tree falls in the forest…blah blah blah…or i sink therefore i am…you know the questions that seem to have no ansers.
and…of course…does God exist?
i don’t think personally that it matters a rat’s ass in the grand scheme of things.
but then…yano…it’s just my humble opinion.
Metaphysics is concerned with questions that cannot be answered using direct observation, experiment, and inductive reasoning, which is just a fancy way of saying that metaphysical questions lie beyond the purview of the scientific method. Example: physicists (chemists, biologists, et al.) don’t concern themselves with questions about the soul, not because they don’t believe in its existence, but because they don’t have the tools at their disposal to study it (observe it, perform experiments on it, derive equations that describe its properties, etc.). So the existence of the soul would be a metaphysical, not a physical, question.
Your question has two parts but in the way it is set the latter part defines I think the former. So in this way I will answer. It is important to study philosophy because like B. Russel said once philosophy gives the answers in the gap made of science and religion or other sources of knowledge. Now, philosophy has many branches on of them is metaphysics. Metaphysics are floating in a space where a higher abstraction of notions and theories exist. Most of the times it refers to things we can not see but we know that they are among us because we live with them or in other words, we can not live without them. So, these things can be so indispensable, if they have not already become that we need to explore them, we need to know about them. It is not enough to have them. We need to know them so as to handle them, to speak about them, to manipulate them. It is that very same principle that lead science to explore natural laws so as to innovate technology in favor of humanity. But, we have, in my point of view to be very clear about what we want to know every time we study philosophy and especially metaphysics.
