Not sure. The only myths I do know involving menstruation is the rubbish in the Old Testament about how women are unclean during that time of the month and must be ostracised. By that superstition I think the belief was that anybody who had contact with such an “unclean” woman would have to undergo some kind of cleansing process before being allowed to mingle with others again.
