WHY THE INCREASE RATE OF DIVORCE AMONGST CHRISTIANS? IS GOD HAPPY WITH THIS?
<p>It has been estimated that 50% of every American marriages and 48% of all European marriages lead to divorce. After a survey done some years ago, divorce rates among conservative Christians were significantly higher than for other faith groups and much higher than Atheists and Agnostics experience. Why is this so? Are we Christians already forgetting our Christian values? What is God’s reaction towards divorce?</p><p>Malachi2:16 makes it so axiomatic about Gods feelings towards divorce. “For the Lord God of Israel says that He hates divorce, for it covers one’s garment with violet. Therefore take heed to your spirit that you do not deal treacherously”. God hates divorce so much, why then do Christians feel comfortable going into it? This is so appalling to the extent that even ministers of God go into divorce and even re-marry. This is not God’s standard at all.</p><p>You may bring out a point from Jesus’ statement in Matthew5:31-32 which says “furthermore, it has been said “whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce. But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery” But remember also in Matthew19:3-8 some Pharisees wanted to test Jesus. They came up to him and asked “Is it right for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?” Jesus answered; don’t you know that in the beginning, the creator made man and a woman? That’s why a man leaves his father and mother and gets married. He becomes like one person with his wife. Then they are no longer two people, but one. And no one should separate a couple that God has joined together” The Pharisees
