Question by Neapolis30: Whan kind of tarots are free for use ( I mean images)?
I have to print a commercial photography artwork with some tarots in. I’d like to know if are there any kind of tarots (very old i suppose) without copyrights.

Thanks a lot!

The Waite Deck has been around since 1910. However, Waite didn’t die until the 40s. A game company has an over all copyright. You might try getting permission for the use of a few cards by contacting U.S. Games Systems inc. N.Y. 10016

There are some older decks in the Louvre, but getting permissions would probably be ridiculous.

What do you think? Answer below!

    Hello

I would say the Rider Waite ~ I use them as do others, so I doubt that there would be any bother.

The Rider-Waite is copyrighted by USGames Inc, and they will charge you for professional use of its images.

Why not go to http://www.aeclectic.net and have a look at some of the unpublished decks – contact the artists of the ones you like, explain your project, and ask if they might let you use their images. Many artists are generous with usage, as long as full credit is given.
