Question by Rev. Aaron: Atheists – How do you feel about the Thomas Jefferson Bible?
It was a book written by Thomas Jefferson that took out all the claims of the metaphysical – all claims of magical powers or the existence of a God. It includes none of the old testament and none of Revelations.

“The Life and Moral Teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.”

In short, do you find the “ethical system” of the Character of Jesus to be reprehensible, or is it the claims of divinity and the context of the rest of the Bible that offend you the most?

I’m to busy reading Mo Hayder – Ritual at the moment, so I’ll add that to my list of books to read.

I do love a good work of fiction.

  • Jeff Murdoch says:

Thomas Jefferson was a deist, dude, and not an theist. You are just rewriting history to fit in with your belief system.

  • Mike H says:

Generally speaking I have no extreme opposition to the teachings of Jesus on morals and ethics. I think he taught some good things. However, if I choose to not follow his teachings, I believe that is my right. I believe that I should not be threatened with negative consequences for exercising the right to choose my own path as long as I harm no one in the process.

  • David Carrington Jr. says:

I’ve heard of it, but never read it. I think it’s a cool idea.

I’ve always thought Jesus’ message of love and forgiveness was an admirable one, if a bit trite and naive.

I just found out about the TJ Bible the other day, and I’m really interested in reading it. I find the actual lessons taught by Jesus to be valuable moral guides, but the claims of divinity are irrelevant nonsense.

I like the Jefferson Bible. It’s the teachings of a wise man without all the supernatural trappings that were added later to get people to pay attention. See, what happened is that people paid way more attention to the supernatural trappings than to the teachings and now it’s hard to find a Christian who actually follows the teachings of Jesus. They’re way more concerned about doctrine that was developed decades or centuries later.
