Question by since Xiong: What are some really informative books about New Age teachings?
I’m interested in expanding my collection of a few basic New Age writings. Is there any books that you consider of importance for understanding the whole range of New Age thought? Thanks.

To my knowledge, there isn’t one single book which will tell you all you need to know about New Age wisdom. However, there is an excellent publishing company which publishes nothing but New Age books, DVD’s, etc. Llewellyn Publishing.
Check out their website: http://www.llewellyn.com/
They should have whatever you need!

Hi Goldie.
There are a tone of wonderful books out there. I hope I’m not violating any rules, I’m new here, but I have a page of recommendations that all link to Amazon.
This is the page I think you would be particularly interested in.
The two books which I absolutely love, and highly recommend are:
“Fundamentals of Hawaiian Mysticism”
and
“The Four Agreements”

The first is a book on an Hawaiian philosophy called “Huna”. It’s an awesome mixture of metaphysical beliefs and psychology. I like huna because it has one foot in a science that we know and relates the metaphysical to it.
“The Four Agreements” is a book on Toltec Wisdom. It’s short and easy to read, but long on thinking about what you do read. It gives you 4 simple rules to live by — agreements that you make with yourself. It’s wonderful. They also have cards, but I don’t have those yet.
The other book you might consider is a book called “Spirit Guides & Angel Guardians: Contact Your Invisible Helpers” by Richard Webster.

It’s a little more pointed and specific, and I don’t know where you are in your knowledge, but it’s a nice introduction to Angels and Spirit Guides. The other book on that page that is a nice little book is “Angels 101”.
However, if you are looking for more general philosophies, I would start with “Fundamentals of Hawaiian Mysticism” and then “The Four Agreements.”
Hope this helps.
New Age thought/philosophy is a broad topic, but here are my suggestions.
This one is expensive (67.00) but it’s a great overview. Very in depth. “Historical Dictionary of New Age Movements (Historical Dictionaries of Religions, Philosophies and Movements)” by Michael York
http://www.amazon.com/Historical-Dictionary-Movements-Dictionaries-Philosophies/dp/0810848732/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201567470&sr=1-13
I would read a biography of Edgar Cayce. Often considered to be the father of several new age movements, his story is both fascinating and informative. Tons of bios exist, but I would suggest: “The Edgar Cayce Primer” or “Edgar Cayce: Modern Prophet”

Jung is another name that is often heard in New Age discussions. David Tacey’s “Jung and the New Age” is a great book (29.07).

There are lots of other New Age books, but if I had to rebuild my library, these are where I would start.
