Medicine men. Like a doctor, but they use herbs and focus on the energy of life.
What do you think? Answer below!
answer: the spiritual leaders and workers of the tribe. A medicine man would lead the tribe in prayers, workings and work magic for the tribe – sympathetic magic, for example. They would work with the women in herbal magic and healings. They would also do divination.
They are sort of like a mix between a holistic doctor (using herbs to treat ills rather than drugs) and a spiritual leader.
They still practice in Peru.
indigenous north americans do not have shamans. that term is for the indigenous cultures of siberia and northern europe. anthropologists decided to be lazy and call our healers that as well. some of us (native nations) don’t have “medicine men” or whatever. mine does not. we have medicine societies.
the important thing is to remember we are not all alike. avoid stereotypes.
