Question by Goddess Nikki: Do you think Pagans should build community centers?
I read this a long time ago, and must admit I tend to agree. I dont mis christianity, but I do miss the community. They have non denominational centers for all different religions, do you think we should have a non-denominational Pagan temple open to the public?

That’s a nice service offered by your local store, and I plan to do something similar with mine- tell me, do they charge you for the classes? Is it done in community appreciation, or as a marketing strategy? I’ve seen both happen.

I think anyone can do anything as long as they don’t try to convert each other.. meaning Christians.

What do you think? Answer below!

If they can fund them, sure why not.

    Why not?

I do agree completely. The problem is that most pagans are members of a coven and meet at someones home once week. The best solution that I found was a Universal Unitarian Community. The spelling is horribly wrong but the idea is wonderful. It’s filled with people that shares the views that everyone is entitles to believe what they want. Its a diverse group of religions and no judgments. Although most are Pagan or Atheist. Do a web search and check them out.

There’s a Pagan store in my town that has all kinds of community activities. They have a drumming circle out front every second Friday. There’s classes you can take to learn how to make your own incense and stuff. They have tarot lessons. I love going to it, even though I’m no longer Pagan.

EDIT: They’re all free. They only thing they ask for is donations for the supplies that are used, unless you bring your own supplies.

I’ve had the same thought before. I’d love to see at least one around town. –there’s certainly more than enough churches!

  • Nandina says:

There are Pagan community centers out there already – you just need to know where to look.

There are also several Wiccan/Pagan groups (at least in my area) that offer open Circles – again, if you know where to look.

Look up “CUUPS” and see if there are any groups near you.

I think there are too many differences between (for example) Asatruar, Wiccans, and Druids to build one “non-denominational Pagan temple” that would fulfill all the needs that traditionally goes with the word “temple”.

Besides – NATURE is our church, anyway…

I am UU Pagan. I started going for the sense of community and to expose my kids to all religions. There is actually an organization CUUPS that brings the pagans together with in the UU. So in a sense, we have community centers LOL

    pagan, agnostic, etc etc bud..

    love thy neighbour..catholism is evil..jesus was real..my opinion..(eye 4 ..an..)

opps, have family who i love who are caths.. bless them they know no better..and their heart is in the right place i guess..

community truely does not need to be lackin gin this day and age..and u know what..in some communities it isnt.

a bit of heart is there..

but..pagan has been made a dirty word by the christys/cathys and a centre would be ‘media-ed’ as louie worship i reckon.

maybe i need a head reading

We have a small Pagan community in northern Ky… they hold classes (yes, they do charge for the classes, but just to cover expenses of books, ritual items, etc) The community center here keeps it’s doors open during winter nights for the homeless to sleep, grab a cup of coffee or water and if possible, we feed them (sometimes it’s just not possible to feed them all). Summers are spent teaching local churches about Pagans and our beliefs, as well as supporting anything the local police/fire/etc do with the community. I fully support the idea of having a non-denom Pagan temple open to the public. It would be good to see more places like this. Though the area I am in, the Pagans tend to stay in the closet, so it is hard to get people together to do anything like this here.

    Thanks for the website.

If you mean pagans who do believe in a GOD other than THE LORD JESUS CHRIST or what the Bible teaches, then the answer is definitely NO. St Paul said to himself I was a violent man and I persecuted the Church of GOD (referring to the Church of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST) out of ignorance and unbelief. Evenso, the Prophet Isaiah said How beautiful are the feet of the one who brings the goodnews of the kIngdom. THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD.

  • Abriel Lokiskona says:

There already are. There’s a Pagan group in my town who hold meetings monthy available to the public. I know of many others in other towns as well.

  • LabGrrl says:

    They have been for years.

  • ArcadianStormcrow says:

There are some… but a number of them tend to get by on the traditional shoestring budget. The number of Pagans with disposable incomes to dump into the community still isn’t all that huge.

More common, from what I’ve seen, is that there’s some sort of area network, and they “borrow” some space at the local Pagan shop/etc. I’m not sure there’s enough demand for a full-time community center, though some creative folks might be able to find a way in a place with a large enough population.

It also doesn’t help that the community is somewhat of a dysfunctional family, where some groups won’t talk to others due to personality conflicts or religious differences – even if there’s enough bodies in an area, if they can’t play nicely together, it’s hard to get them to support something like that.

    I am all for community

And I am a big fan of the Unitarian Universalist or the local pagan store, or online or wherever,

I like the idea of an open worship center where people pencil in worship time for there groups on a first come first serve basis and contribute to the general fund for upkeep etc. Occasionally meet as a large group at scheduled events.
It could also be rented out for handfastings etc.

But I am not sure how big others might be on structure.
