Celedra Gildea, PhD, a psychotherapist by profession, began designing malas, or prayer beads, in 1995 in order to support her spiritual practice in Tibetan Buddhism. In 2007 she went to Tibet to start a non-profit cottage industry for the Nangchen, training local Tibetan women in the making of malas. Then, she and her team took a harrowing car ride up the treacherous roads to the nunnery, where the malas were placed on the alter to receive the prayers and blessings of the nuns. Today, she is devoted to providing objects of art for you and your home with malas, jewelry and home décor that help create the sacred in everyday life.
