alcoholics anonymous meeting through a twelve step program. This is specially designed for the successful rehabilitation of the alcoholics. The first step for this program would be the acceptance of the alcoholic that he needs help. Once they have accepted that, they will have to believe that they can recover from their alcoholism, which is the second step. Upon accepting it, the third step would be concentrating on a greater power. Alcoholics should accept that they can rely on something beyond themselves.
These are the first initial steps, after which, they will have to undergo steps 5 to 9 which involves having an introspection of themselves so that they’d be able to discover their needs as well as their expectations to their problems. This will also include asking help from a spiritual force for their shortcomings and asking for forgiveness from the persons whom they have hurt in the past. Step nine is all about making amends to acquaintances and relatives while the patients are still continuing their introspection and admit the mistakes that they have done.
The remaining steps in the Alcoholics Anonymous program would be about enhancing one’s faith using spiritual activities. The final step would be to help other alcoholics and inspire them that recovery from alcoholism is possible. The overall result of the twelve step program is that, the patient who has previously undergone rehabilitation will inspire other alcoholics to start a new life and undergo the 12 step program. Getting sober is possible through the help of the 12 step program. But, this is not the only approach and there are other routes if one is agnostic or not comfortable with a spiritual orientation.
