Soul to Squeeze is a song that was originally recorded during the production of RHCP fifth studio album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991). Although it was not featured on the record (and compiled as a b-side to “Under the Bridge”) “Soul to Squeeze” was later released as a single in 1993. Lyrics: I’ve got a bad disease But from my brain is where I bleed. Insanity it seems Has got me by my soul to squeeze. Well all the love from thee With all the dying trees I scream. The angels in my dreams (yeah) Have turned to demons of greed that’s mean. Chorus: Where I go I just don’t know I got to got to gotta take it slow. Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt (1994) is John’s first solo album. Basically, it’s a double album, although it is just one cd. This is an overview of the second half: Usually Just a T-Shirt. Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt was recorded during the Blood Sugar Sex Magik recordings and tour and after his first departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Around this time, Frusciante’s drug abuse increased and increased. The album is quite experimental and psychedelic, full of backwards played guitars and pianos, mind twisting lyrics, screams and instrumentals, scratching guitars and deformed vocals. It’s very dark and depressing, sometimes even scary, but very beautiful and pure too. The ‘low quality’ adds very well to the whole ambience, in my opinion. Main themes are probably: depression, love, letting people down, drugs, loneliness So what do you think about the album? Or what do you think the songs are about?
