Yes, they are very much a fad.
And they have just as much efficacy as prayer. (Which is to say, none.)

“So what exactly are the magical powers inside a purity ring that stop you from having sex?”
It looks like a wedding ring.
They’re the biggest psychological hoax since energy drinks. They sound cool and good, but they’re pointless (though in the case of energy drinks, they’re bad for your health).
They’re like pinky promises except a waste of money, and with a 0% purity guarantee (because if you’re going to be pure, you’re going to be pure purity ring or not; and likewise, if you’re gonna f*ck, then you’re gonna f*ck).
men see them and know that the girl is a religious nut or isn’t putting out and we move on.
at least thats at the “teen” years stage.
if an older woman is wearing a purity ring its more to the effect that she is a psycopath who has deep seeded intimacy issues that she is incapable of giving and recieving physical intimacy and as such she is incapable of real emotional intimacy and long term relationships.
Someone makes you wear it and drills it into your head that doing it will defy the ring’s ideology.
In other words, Some idiot made it up, eventhough they do absolutely nothing to stop teen pregnancy and STDs.
It’s a fad. THe only power any ring has is the power you believe it has.
I was under the impression that it was a promise not to have sex until they were married. No magical power inside. Restraint
I guess it depends on where you wear the ring. I can think of a few ways that would prevent most “normal” sex acts.
No magic ring. It’s not Captain Planet. I find them really disgusting and sexist.
there have a built in automatic tazer.
I was with this girl who was wearing one and as soon as it touched me I got shocked, they are evil little devices
Assuming one is a teenager, it may have the power of granting one’s parents a false sense of security about their offspring’s behavior, thereby gaining looser parental restrictions and later curfews for the wearer.
A purity ring doesn’t have “magical powers.” There is nothing about the ring that will guarantee abstinence for the wearer. It’s just a symbol and reminder of the promise they made before God to abstain from sex until marriage. Just like wedding rings hold no “magical powers” to keep a couple from committing adultery, etc, they are symbols of the vows they took before each other and God.
