Religious, but not Spiritual? Good News and Bad News from the World’s Largest Religion It takes a moment to reconcile oneself to the fact that the religious tradition of St. Francis and Mother Theresa is also the tradition of the Crusades and the Inquisition. Fr. Thomas Keating, considered one of the great contemplatives of our time, has spent a lifetime in the practice of Christianity, seeking and sharing its depths. The goal of the tradition, suggests Fr. Thomas in this week’s video, is transformation—but transformation into what? The answer depends on what stage of development you’re at. Beyond becoming a better person (though your family and friends may thank you profusely), beyond even becoming a saint, Fr. Thomas suggests that the goal of the mature Christian life is to become no thing. As with any developmental sequence, the subject of one stage becomes the object of the subject of the next—in this case, until absolute Subjectivity itself. The problem—and the challenge—lie in the fact that, among its 2 billion adherents, relatively few are aware of Christianity’s mystical tradition and contemplative path. Statements like “I’m spiritual, but not religious” actually come from a fairly evolved place, from which one rejects external aspects of the tradition, while still longing for its esoteric wisdom. Integral spirituality offers an entirely new perspective on this question. From this perspective, we can see that although the stories of the world’s religious

BTW , I never said you should let science become your dogma or your God and its not what it is to me. If at some point there would be a reasonable evidence for a God, or ghosts or any kind of supernatural I would stop being an Atheist. But so far there is no evidence for such thing and no acceptable reason for me to believe it. Also, though I do love Astronomy and Cosmology , I don’t revere nature. Now DANCE !

    It’s really pretty simple:

    1. To be human is to question, to wonder, to ask “Who am I, and why am I here?”
    2. Throughout history, people come up with many theories – this gave rise to spirituality.
    3. Some spiritualities became embraced by a culture, and were organized and codified – this gave rise to religion.
    4. Horrible things we done in the name of religion, so people began to ask “What’s the point?” so atheism was born.
    5. People end up where they started.

With the Enlightenment, religion lost its attachment to nationality, but rather than being a universal social attitude, it was now a personal feeling or emotion

@MrKylehass i agree but i wish people would try weaker strains of weed, like commercial weed, strong stuff can take u places u might not be too happy with later on in life

The ankh of fire, of spirit, the origin eh. Forget Religious dogma, as always in history, there is the spiritual dogma of the divine self.

Imbued with ego, a tiny stream.”

Also in those times, very few had power and so it was comforting to think some greater power would avenge them for some transgression.

If you want to be awe inspired look at the world around. Look at a lion as it runs, see the beauty and power in the movements of its limbs. Or the beautiful works of art being made by MAN not some invisible sky god.

  • levlowell says:

Karma is an invention of man to assure themselves that others will be punished. It is simillar to the invention of hell being used as a way to keep people in line. In a time where people believed earthquakes were the result of monster wrestling off in the distance, you can see how people were quick to believe in things such as hell and karma.

I agree that science has its own magic in a lot of ways and different structures in physics and biology are pieces of art so its quite easy to look at the factual world for awe inspiring things. I swear sometimes you are just saying what i’m thinking zomggetscriss

  • cristiandociufcd says:

The fact is, in time people realised that religion should be apart from philosophy and psychology. Even if this schism happened, it happened in a time where only the elite of the society was literate and had rights, therefore most people still based their common sense as been told from the old book. Descartes: “If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.”

  • cristiandociufcd says:

Karma is make believe just like all the religious universal justice. People bathe in assurance of the jungian god archetype, that’s why most civilizations had something to believe in. Truth be told, religion was one of the first methods to make a social hierarchy and that’s why it lasted so much, spirituality was just a side effect. At first, not only did religion enable them to be recognised as part of a certain society but it was also considered as wisdom, so peolpe imagined more principles.

Shes not atheist, shes a witch. Just look at her necklace, ankh of chakrah.

  • Asehpe says:

Criss, I quite like all your movies, but I do have to add my voice to what others have said here: if you think “spirituality” is vampires, astrology, witchcraft, etc., then you’ve been misinformed. The latter are closer to superstition than to spirituality. Spirituality is about wondering whether there are other steps beyond what we have reached in the cognitive realm… which, as hypothesis go, is not a bad one.

  • J0ker4u says:

GET IN THE BAG GYPSY !!! Jk jk jk!!!

    😀

So because one person chooses to believe in spirituali things for silly girly reasons means they all do?

Also I find the camera angle thing with the gestures used as a method of brainwashing or persuasion is a bit wrong since you’re supposed to be uncovering the truth by fact only… it’s almost like yelling louder than someone else…
