All I know is the term Medicine Man. If someone has special powers, they are known to have “strong medicine”.
Give your answer to this question below!
The only term for a male witch I’ve ever heard of is a warlock.
Your question assumes that there is only one kind of native American (thus, one kind of language or word for something).
That would depend on what tribe you are talking about. Different Native American groups have different languages. Your question is the equivalent of asking if Africans have a term for a male witch. I’m sure they all do, but in order to answer the question you need to tell us who specifically you are talking about.
If you use the Sioux as an example, they had a Spirit man termed a “Wicasa Waken”.
If you google this topic it provides you with loads of great sites that give you a feel for some of the names you could consider for this character.
Good luck with your writing.
The biography I read from a tribal rememberer of the Dakota Indians explained the high position of their medicine men as mentors of the tribe. Annually the tribe made a shirt for their holy man. Each person adding something to the shirt which he wore everyday in front of them all. The tribes were close knit and ready to meet out cruel punishment on any who challenged the group or the leaders. Wrong doers were punished by their own parents. Some were driven off without any tools to survive in the wilderness. Illness from poor germ management was very dangerous to life as well. Killing a neighboring warrior meant bringing the home the head for the children to play football with.
