Question by sanko: Writing of the Iroquois nation?
Writing of the Iroquois nation, Smith has argued that through the chiefs’ council, tribal chiefs traditionally maintained complete control over the political affairs of both the Iroquois tribal league and the individual tribes belonging to the league, whereas the sole jurisdiction over religious affairs resided with the shamans.
this is a confusing para.

It means “In Smith’s writings (his essays, books, etc.) about the Iroquois nation, he has argued that….. “
What do you think? Answer below!
the above person is correct..it means Smith’s writings about the Iroquois.
however as an enrolled member of one of the 6 nations of the Haudenasaunee (iroquois) i have to say..Smith doesn’t know what he is talking about at all. we don’t have shamans. we don’t even have “medicine men”. plus our chiefs controlled nothing as they were/are servants of the people. so whatever he is saying is wrong. read a book written by an actual member of the iroquois. we have many authors. let me know and i’ll give you some book titles.
